Disclosure of Disability:
ADA Basic Track Session

(Portland)

Date

July 14, 2005

Time

1:30 PM - 3:30 PM

Location

Independent Living Resources (ILR), 2410 S.E. 11th Avenue, Portland, OR 97214

Description

Deciding when to talk about a disability can be a difficult choice for a person who is job hunting or on the job. If you have a hidden disability such as a learning disability or a psychiatric impairment, when and how to disclose your condition can be a real dilemma. The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) protects individuals with disabilities in all employment practices, and most importantly, the right to request a reasonable accommodation for the hiring process and on the job. This session will examine the pros and cons about the disclosure of disabilities, will review the ADA’s reasonable accommodation process, and will provide participants with resources and materials.
