The OBLN testifies before Oregon's Joint Ways and Means Subcommittee on Human Services in support of strong funding for the Vocational Rehabilitation budget. See: OBLN Testimony. At the same hearing OBLN Board Member Bill Kemp gives his personal testimony as a person with a disability who has received invaluable support through Oregon VR. See: Bill Kemp Testimony.

November 2005
In November 2005, the OBLN released its White Paper on Employer Supports - the position paper explores the factors that influence a company’s ability to effectively employ people with disabilities and the type of supports that should be available to them from Vocational Rehabilitation and other sources. At the 2005 Conference of the US Business Leadership Network, held in November in Pittsburg, PA, the Oregon Business Leadership Network (OBLN) was awarded an Exceptional Leadership Award. More information...

October 8, 2005
The OBLN presents position paper on accommodation (Document here in Word Format) to the
Oregon Business Council and it results in an article in The Oregonian: More Than Just a Virtuous Idea. (More on the OBLN's Accommodation Initiative with the Oregon Business Plan.

March 2005
The OBLN receives support from the Oregon Office of Vocational Rehabilitation to increase its outreach and chapter development.

January 2005
The Oregon Business Plan formally recognizes the OBLN and the economic importance of including persons with disabilities. From Page 14... “Accommodating Oregonians with Disabilities: A new business network has formed to address how to better include Oregonians with disabilities more fully into the workplace. Effectively tapping and retaining the skills and buying power of people with disabilities stimulates the state's economy and incorporates a growing pool of skilled workers traditionally overlooked by business.” More Information.

The OBLN Business Case for Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities is finalized and announced.

The OBLN is approved as a tax exempt 501c3 organization.

October 2004
The OBLN releases the draft version of it's Business Case for public comment.

The Board of the OBLN announces its new Officers, priorities, and Honorary Co-Chairs.

July 23, 2004 - The Board of the OBLN is pleased to announce its new Officers, priorities, and Honorary Co-Chairs.

OFFICERS OF THE BOARD

  • Keith Fuller, Director, Strategic Recruiting and Organizational Development Fred Meyer Stores/ Vice President/Treasurer
  • Leanna Woodall, IDAN Cross-Site Chair (Intel Diverse Abilities Network), Intel Corporation/ Secretary

PRIORITIES

At its June 29th meeting, the OBLN Board adopted as their first priorities:

  1. To become a statewide organization of employer groups and chapters who share a serious interest in making disability inclusive workplaces and customer bases,
  2. Host a CEO forum of statewide industry leaders for crafting the business case for full inclusion of qualified people with disabilities in the competitive workplace and consumer base,
  3. Develop strategic partnerships with key organizations including the ODC, Commission for the Blind, OVRS, ILC’s, ATI, Employment Department, Workforce Investment partners and others,  and
  4. Dialogue with the Governor on the fit of the OBLN in his economic development efforts. 

HONORARY CO-CHAIRS 2004-05:

Representative Brad Avakian and Peter O. Kohler M.D., President of OHSU will serve as the Honorary Co-Chairs of the OBLN for 2004-2005.  They will host the CEO forum on crafting the business case, introduce the OBLN to the Governor, and assist the Board in its work with industry sectors and strategic partners.
