In November 2005, the OBLN released its White Paper on Employer
Supports - the position paper explores the factors that influence a
company’s ability to effectively employ people with disabilities and the
type of supports that should be available to them from Vocational
Rehabilitation and other sources. See Employer

At the 2005 Conference of the US Business
Leadership Network, held in November in Pittsburg, PA, the Oregon
Business Leadership Network (OBLN) was awarded an Exceptional Leadership
Award. More information...

The OBLN receives support from the Oregon Office of Vocational
Rehabilitation to increase its outreach and chapter development.

The Oregon Business Plan formally recognizes the OBLN and the economic
importance of including persons with disabilities. From Page 14... “Accommodating
Oregonians with Disabilities: A new business network has formed to
address how to better include Oregonians with disabilities more fully
into the workplace. Effectively tapping and retaining the skills and
buying power of people with disabilities stimulates the state's economy
and incorporates a growing pool of skilled workers traditionally

PRIORITIES
At its June 29th
meeting, the OBLN Board adopted as their first priorities:
-
To become a statewide
organization of employer groups and chapters who share a serious
interest in making disability inclusive workplaces and customer
bases,
-
Host a CEO
forum of statewide industry leaders for crafting the business case
for full inclusion of qualified people with disabilities in the
competitive workplace and consumer base,
-
Develop strategic
partnerships with key organizations including the ODC, Commission
for the Blind, OVRS, ILC’s, ATI, Employment Department, Workforce
Investment partners and others, and
-
Dialogue with the
Governor on the fit of the OBLN in his economic development
efforts.
HONORARY CO-CHAIRS
2004-05:
Representative Brad Avakian
and Peter O. Kohler M.D.,
President of OHSU will serve as the Honorary Co-Chairs of
the OBLN for 2004-2005. They will host the CEO forum on crafting
the business case, introduce the OBLN to the Governor, and assist
the Board in its work with industry sectors and strategic partners.
